Bakken Performance AS publishes books, training programs, and digital resources for structured endurance training, built on threshold-based methods developed and tested over 25 years, from elite 5000m racing to everyday marathon preparation.

Marius Bakken

Bakken Performance is operated by Marius Bakken, MD, a Norwegian physician and two-time Olympic 5000m runner with a personal best of 13:06. From the late 1990s he developed lactate-guided threshold training methods that later became part of what is widely known as the Norwegian Method.

He practices as a physician in Kristiansand and writes and publishes through Bakken Performance. More at mariusbakken.com.

Books

Løping! (Running!) reached #1 on the Norwegian nonfiction bestseller list. The Norwegian Method Applied, with a foreword by Steve Magness, is the technical guide to the training system. Published in English in 2026, it reached #1 among top-selling running books on Amazon over an 8-week period.
